Smiles, where is it now???

I'm the kind of person who gladly lets the people behind me get on the bus first, especially women, for no reason what so ever. I don't think for a second it's an act of chivalry, just a act of being a nice person and it always seems to put a smile on people's faces.

That's sometimes a very rare sighting, especially in Cape Town yeck, the whole of the Western Cape...

Tourists often think think that South Africa is this beautiful country (and it can be, but so can other countries given the opportunity) with happy people etc, etc, etc.

Sad thing is, tourists never see the real South Africa. They come here and see two its best beaches, but fail to see the dozens of other sub-standard beaches. They see the luxurious hotels, but fail to see the streets of Nyanga and Mphaleni.

They see the view of Cape Town from Table Mountain that disguises the filthy roads and streets of the City of Cape Town. They go and see the Legendary prison that held former SA President Nelson Mandela on Robbin Island, but never get to see the prison cells of Pollsmoor Prison that house some of the worlds most deadliest street thugs, that terrorise, rape, murder and molest thousands of innocent men, women and children in the Western Cape.

They go visit the grand restaurants and eat the best foods, but never set eyes on the Cape Flats and that some of the people living there are so impoverished that they can go without supper on a cold rainy night.

Often tourist see the smiles on the faces of the people but fail to see their dried up tears. The way the world sees South Africa, even after the World Cup is a tainted view...

Its been 5 months since the Soccer World Cup was held here, and we still have the same problems as ever, housing, education, poverty, unemployment you name it... The only difference is, the world thinks we are this thriving nation destined for greatness. I'm not saying that South Africa can't be a great nation, I'm just saying its not going to happen in my lifetime...

What it all boils down to is that we don't have much to smile about by these days. The days are dark indeed. The headlines on the newspapers send chills down many people's spines... a father murders his son and commits suicide hours before Christmas, Baby dumping season, etc, etc.

The funny thing is, these exact tourists are just as oblivious to the same things that are happening in their countries, only we may have it worse. Many people don't realise that in SA our minimum wage -by law- is around R7 an hour... there are people getting paid less than that... the minimum wage in the US is $7, in comparison, we are getting paid $1 an hour...

If an American can't survive on $7 an hour minimum wage, he wouldn't last a month in South Africa...

I often fail to see  what tourists see, maybe its because I've lived here for so long, that I can't be fooled by the smokescreens of publicity and tourism.

One thing I can tell you though is that even in the most impoverished sections of SA you will find people willing to give, even when they don't have for themselves. That is another thing tourists never see, because they fail to see the poor when come here, only to see the rich...

Mary-Ann is a b!tch

A long time ago (well about 5 years at least) I was watching MTV and up popped a women I had never heard before. Her name, Regina Spektor. The song she was singing was Fidelity. A beautiful song that captivated me right then and there.

I've pretty much loved every song of hers that my claws could get to. It was her unique and wonderful music, that I was slightly mocked by from my fellow peers at school, they all listen to rap and R 'n B. I went to a predominantly coloured school, and being white, you had to find a way to fit in... Well that's not me. I don't really want to fit in, but I don't want to stand out either... I'm complicated like that... I just want to be me and the best version of me... but that's beside the point .

She wasn't the only singer that was deemed uncool- Mika was another such example. I just love his music, very empowering... all types of rock was unsatisfactory event even classics like the Beetles and Queen were seen unfit to enter Buren High School grounds...

Anyways later when my school career was drawing to a close, songs such as Relax (Mika) were quite popular at BHS- everyone was trying to hit those high notes that Mika loves to use, everyone failed, even the supposed great singers of BHS who thought they would make it big in the industry - more like the singers of mediocrity- but that's just my opinion...

Anyways, one of my favourite songs of Regina S is a song called Sailor Song, I really do love all her songs with a great passion but I just love to shout Mary-Ann's a bitch -

Song of the year

Seeing as the 31st of December is looming closer with each and every day, I've decided to share with you my annual tradition of Song of the year.

Each year I choose a song that best fits me and a song that for some reason I can listen to on repeat for hours -Not kidding.

Last years song (and still one of my fav's) was Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. I literally listened that song for 7 uninterrupted hours. Its still on my playlist and I do repeat it from time to time...  There were so many facebook statuses dedicated to Bad Romance...

Anyways this years it has to be Rihanna's Only girl in the world.

There were some tough contenders, but OGITW kicked ass. Its the ultimate song. It's what every girl in world wants from her partner and its most certainly what want. Note that I sing it (rather a false though- tone deaf) Want you to make me feel like the only GUY in the world. I might be queer, but that doesn't mean I have a vagina... seriously...

Anyways here's Rihanna with Only girl in the world:
Oh and here's an alternate version hehehe quite comical in a disturbing way :) enjoy:

Silencio Hill

The Silent Hill series has been one of my fav's for years! The growing fear that comes with those games are endless...

Funny thing is I never played any of them in order.

My first Silent hill game was Silent Hill 4: The Room. Henry Townshend was the protagonist of this game. Super amazing graphics and an innovative fighting style. They used this meter gauge at the top to indicate the power of the hit. Pretty cool. I loved the variety of mosters in the game as well, I mean whats a game when you only have like three types of enemies... seriously... Above all the ghosts were the best. Immortal little bastards. They could go through walls (Well duh, but many games don't offer this feature) use weapons and cause dear Henry to get a massive headache from Silent Hill Hell. The locations were all extremely creepy... Unlike the previous installments, the alternate worlds only took on half way into the game, and remained that way till the finish. Also it was the only game in the franchise to not be directly linked to freaky town.

The next one I played was Silent Hill 3. Heather, daughter of Harry Mason from the first game was the heroine of this game. To date, she is the only playable female of the series, and probably the strongest. Heather has super powers that come out her eyeballs, called the Heather beam and later the Sexy beam... Well there was nothing sexy about the costume she had to wear in order to activate "sexy beam attack". I must admit that I was VERY impressed with the detailing of the characters. Both on a graphics scale as well as on a plot level. There were very few characters, but then again all the games have few cast members. No one would ever forget Valtiel that freaky disturbing monster that's always turning that damn valve...

Third one I played was the first Silent Hill. Harry Mason, the first hero in the series and the first to face to snowy / blood ridden town.  He and His Daughter Cheryl were on a trip and accidentally had an accident in the deserted town.Cheryl goes missing (well technically kidnapped) and the whole town goes haywire. Mason meets a police officer Cybil Bennett, one tough cookie by the way, and together they set out to solve the mystery of SH.

Eventually I managed to play the Second Silent Hill. What a flippin' freaky game!!! Hero??? James Sunderland. He went to Spooky town after receiving a letter from his dead wife Mary. The long ass walk at the beginning already gave me goosebumps... the anticipation of the "boo" moment was lingering... pity it never came, but sure did freak me out. NO one who knows Silent Hill can ever say they don't know about Pyramid Head. That immortal Mother F***er was a huge pain in my ass. That massive blade he wielded was a bitch to out run. One slice your dead as a door nail... Took me a long ass time to get past the first encounter with him. Do note you never really beat him in the game, Pyramid head kills himself... all you can do is dodge, which by the way ain't always so easy... On a graphics scale, it was most definitely the creepiest of all the Silent Hill's I've played. the amount of alternate ending was astounding and the amount of weapons to choose from was a lot more than in the first one.

Anyways thats me and my Silent Hills

Willow Tree

Willow tree, oh Willow tree
How much I love the
Willow tree oh Willow tree
Be so glad you cannot hear my bad poetry

I love your big appearance
I love your great resplendence
I love your serene grace
I even love the way you dance motionless

The gentle ocean of leaves,
and the small glimmers of light through your hair
They give me great protection,
from sol's evil glare,

Fully knowing its just fake,
I don't really care,
It still makes me feel so great
Even though I know its a mistake

Your bushy style makes me weak,
right at the heart and knees
My pulse rises, my chest closes,
when I see your view

Oh dear Willow tree when will it come true,
When will I find the one I crave for,
The one who's name I wish to carve for you,
The name eternally bound to you

I crave your smile,
I crave your hair,
I crave your green eyes
and your stare

Oh dear oh dear, dear Willow tree
Your view out there, so true so true
The one I crave for
Is you...
